Dr Amber Keenan

Clinical Psychologist

I am a neurodiversity‑affirming Clinical Psychologist and Gender Specialist. My practice focuses on face‑to‑face adult diagnostic assessment for ADHD, autism, and AuDHD, alongside specialist work in adult mental health and gender dysphoria. I specialise in high‑masking and diagnostically complex presentations, with particular attention to how neurodivergent traits and functional impacts shift across the lifespan and life stages, including the influence of hormonal change. My assessments are grounded in trauma‑ and attachment‑informed psychological formulation, ensuring that individuals feel fully heard and that intersections across mental health, sexuality, gender identity, faith, race, and neurodivergence are meaningfully explored.

I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2007 with First Class Honours in Psychology, followed by a Masters in Neuroscience and Psychiatry at the University of Manchester in 2008. I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Edinburgh in 2012 and have since worked across NHS, university, and private sector settings. I have led and championed national initiatives aimed at improving access to care for neurodivergent gender‑diverse adults.

Alongside private practice, I work part‑time in the NHS as Clinical Lead for a regional specialist multidisciplinary service and for a strategic national service. I have extensive experience with neurodivergent adults, gender diverse people, and individuals presenting with complex mental health needs. My practice is grounded in a rights‑based, formulation‑driven approach that supports people to understand themselves with clarity, dignity, and autonomy.
